A VARIABLE INVARIABILITY VARIED IN DEPENDENCY ON VARIATIONS CAUSED BY THE INVARIABILITY OF INVARIABILITY REMAINS THE SAME AFTER ALL THE VARIATIONS HAVE BEEN DONECzech band Parasophisma are a very creative bunch. On their album "A variable invariability varied in dependency on variations caused by the invariability of invariability remains the same after all the variations have been done" (yes, this is the title) not a single song sounds alike!
The basis is early nineties death metal and doom metal with more than obvious hints to Pungent Stench, early Moonspell and even Disharmonic Orchestra. On this death metal pizza the band uses all kinds of toppings and the album is a very diverse menu. Opening song 'The Contrariety of Someone´s Generally Recognized Common Thoughts" uses some jazzy breaks within their death metal assault and from that point on every song takes a different turn.
Whereas on third song "The vain effort of pedanties" the sound balances between early Cathedral (also because of the flute) and the earlier mentioned Disharmonic Orchestra with some clean vocals and additional female vocals, sixth song "Tips and Tricks for Successful Attaining One´s Goal" achieves reaching black metal speed with addition screams and techno death metal riffing. You get the general idea. They try it all yet they never sound too much like other artists. A refreching blend.
It takes some time to get into this, but if you like your death metal experimental, you will probably like it. A Highly recommended album from a young and very creative Czech group.
